“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela
In keeping true to its pledge to all community members, including children, in empowering communities and building resiliency after a humanitarian crisis, NRS International’s family-run charity Bilqees Sarwar Foundation has donated 1.2 Million Rupees to Sanjan Nagar Public Education Trust (SNPET) to enable quality education for the underprivileged students.
A total of 40 scholarships were awarded to the most deserving students who are currently studying at SNPET School in Pakistan. The selected scholars ranged from 4 to 13 years old from primary and secondary levels.
The father of one of the scholars, a five-year old nursery student at SNPET, works as a school janitor. She aspires to become a doctor someday.
Another scholar, nine-year old Grade 2 student raised by a labourer and a housewife, dreams of becoming a pilot.
It is the family foundation’s commitment to turn these dreams into reality. Girls and boys who learn to read, write and count will provide a better future for their families and countries. The impact of investing in education is profound: education results in raising income, improving health, promoting gender equality, mitigating climate change, and reducing poverty.
For years, the government of Pakistan has promised to improve the education system especially for girls, but due to economic constraints, it remains difficult to implement.
Through its scholarship initiative, the Bilqees Sarwar Foundation, in collaboration with SNPET, hopes to carry out its mission of providing quality education for the underprivileged girls and boys and transforming society through continued pursuit of academic excellence for generations to come.
With improved education, younger generation will have the power to make the world a better place.
