In the spirit of the Holy Month, the Bilqees Sarwar Foundation (BSF) distributed Ramadan food packages to victims of an earthquake that struck the Sawat valley of Pakistan in efforts to alleviate suffering.
On October 8th, 2005, a 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck the Sawat Valley, a remote part of Pakistan. Sawat valley continues to rebuild after years of conflict in adjoining areas . Approximatley 87,000 people died and over 3.5 million rendered homeless. “BSF wanted to step in and assist the communities impacted,” stated Ms. Maliha Sarwar, BSF Project Coordinator and grandchild of Mrs. Bilqees Sarwar. “As a company, we never shy away from disaster. We are well versed in supporting recovery efforts and wanted to do something for the citizens in Sawat, especially during Ramadan”
Following the disastrous earthquake, BSF distributed 500 Ramadan food packages. The packages contain food items that can feed a family of four up to 15 days. Each package contained; 5kilograms of flour, 4 kilograms of sugar, 2.5 kilograms of ghee, 2 kilograms of lentils, 1 Bottle of Rooh Afza (concentrated fruits, herbs and vegetable extract), ½ kilogram of tea, and 5 kilograms of rice.
